130 MAKE OCC’S ATHLETIC HONOR ROLL

A total of 130 Orange Coast College student-athletes made the college’s

Athletic Honor Roll for the 1998-99 academic year.

That number constitutes 34% of all athletes who earned letters for the

Pirates last year. To qualify for honor roll, students were required to

maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average during the season of their

sport, and all had to complete a minimum of 12 academic units during

their seasons.

Fifteen students maintained a perfect 4.0, and 115 had grade point

averages of 3.0 or better. Students from Huntington Beach and Fountain

Valley include: Jason Arellano, Huntington Beach, men’s track and field;

Gretchen Brinegar, Fountain Valley, women’s crew; Mike Buckingham,

Huntington Beach, football; Kelly Burnett, Huntington Beach, women’s

Elmore joins GWC board

Judith Elmore, vice president of family-owned Elmore Toyota in

Westminster, has joined the Golden West College Foundation Board of

Directors, college President Dr. Kenneth Yglesias announced.

Golden West College’s nonprofit foundation is responsible for generating

revenue for scholarships, classroom projects and campus improvements. It

is managed by a board of directors that provides leadership and direction

for the organization. In other Golden West news, Robert C. Maling Jr.,

the president of Airflite, Inc., a Toyota subsidiary, has joined the

Golden West College Foundation Board of Directors.

HIGH SCHOOL DANCE DAY

Orange Coast College has set the date for its 16th Annual High School

Dance Day.

More than 225 Orange County high school students and their faculty

advisors are expected to attend the event, set for March 1. High School

Dance Day, designed to encourage high school students to consider further

study in the field of dance, is hosted annually by OCC’s Dance

Department. Activities will run from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Each high school

student will take part in a series of four classes, taught by members of

OCC’s Dance Department faculty. Students can select from a variety of

classes, including flamenco, modern, ballet, tap, jazz, street dance,

African and dance conditioning. Following the class sessions, Orange

Coast dance students will demonstrate short choreographic studies they

are preparing for their classes. Interested high schools may contact
