Bryan Schutte scored a pair of touchdown runs, the last one coming

from five yards out with 1:22 remaining, to give the Fountain Valley Jr.

Pee Wee Jaguars a 12-7 victory over the South Orange County Patriots on a

damp Saturday afternoon.

The victory advances the Jr. Pee Wee Jaguars to Saturday’s AFL

championship game with the Mission Viejo Cowboys, with the winner

advancing to the Super Bowl.

Game time Saturday is slated for 3 p.m. at South Gate High.

The Jaguars struck quickly against the Patriots, taking the opening

kickoff and scoring on a 36-yard run by Schutte.

The teams were tied 6-6 through three quarters of play, and Fountain

Valley began its game-winning drive from the Patriots 43-yard line. The

key play during the march was quarterback Joshua Perez’s madcap scramble

right on a bootleg on a fourth-and-12 play. Perez just did get the first

down - by inches.

Runs by Isaiah Romero, Travis McNaughton, and Freddie Estrada set up

Schutte’s game-winning run.

The Jaguars “Never Out-Hit” defense held the Patriots on downs on their

final possession, then Perez took a knee with 15 seconds left to end the

game.

Coach Mike Perez called the victory “a total team effort, and praised the

blocking efforts of Austin Ray, Coby Mason, Joshua Gutierrez, and Kevin

Loyola, as well as the defensive play of Perez, cornerbacks Hillard

Boddie and Freddie Estrada, A. J. Wukawitz, Martin Duran, Michael Berber,

Jeff Hennes, and Ryan Valencia, and linebackers Eric Ceja, and

McNaughton.
