READERS RESPOND
AT ISSUE: The Huntington Beach Union High School District had hoped
voters would approve the bond to pay for repairs at deteriorating
campuses.
The Huntington Beach Union High School trustees and their administration
need to realize that the failure to pass the bond issue is not because
the public doesn’t understand the maintenance issue. It is because the
public has lost their faith and trust with the trustees and
administration.
The trustees furthered that loss of trust by manipulating the election
and moving it a week later than all other elections in order to receive
the lowest possible voter turnout.
If the school district was truly interested in reeling in costs,
meaningful discussions would take place concerning unifying or
consolidating all the districts into one, saving millions of dollars,
which in turn could be spent to repair and modernize.
Until that happens, bond issues will continue to fall.

I am thankful and proud to be a Huntington Beach resident and property
owner. It is encouraging to observe more and more Huntington Beach
residents looking out for the city’s benefit. This is despite the
financial train wreck we taxpayers allowed our current and previous
administrations to use as excuses to further bilk taxpayers.
The pendulum now finally appears to be swinging in our direction when we
vote no on their new taxation, fees or whatever label City Hall decides
to whitewash their attempts to squeeze more money from our pockets
instead of learning to live within their means.

Why have our high schools been neglected for all these years and now
suddenly money is needed for repairs?
These repairs should have been taken care of years ago instead of wasting
all the money the schools are allotted on nonessentials, such as the pool
at Huntington Beach High School, which was a disaster when our children
were on the swim teams back in the 1980s.
Why weren’t the repairs done when needed?
These problems have existed for years and were ignored. Give us a break.
Money given to the school systems has always been wasted. They
continually cry wolf.
