Pee Wee Jaguars fall to Cowboys
Mike Sciacca
The Fountain Valley Jr. Pee Wee Division Jaguars had their AFL
title hopes ended Saturday by the Mission Viejo Cowboys, who posted a
30-13 victory in the division’s championship game.
The Jr. Pee Wee Jaguars could not overcome an early 14-0 deficit and thus
had their season end just one win shy of earning a berth in the upcoming
Super Bowl.
Fountain Valley, however, did narrow the gap to a touchdown when Joshua
Perez broke off tackle for a 40-yard scoring run, and Bryan Schutte’s
conversion brought the Jr. Pee Wee Jaguars to 14-7.
But Mission Viejo regrouped to score the game’s next 16 points to open up
a 30-7 advantage. Although Fountain Valley could not recover, the Jr. Pee
Wee Jaguars did score one final time on Isaiah Romero’s 14-yard scoring
run.
Head Coach Mike Perez’s Jr. Pee Wee Jaguars concluded their successful
season with an overall record of 10-2.
Four members of Fountain Valley’s squad -- Schutte, defensive lineman
Michael Berber, offensive lineman Coby Mason, and defensive back Travis
McNaughton, have been elected to play in the Jr. Pee Wee Division
All-Conference game, which will be held at 5 p.m. Dec. 12 at Cal State
Fullerton.
