Students were rounded up to learn about bicycle safety at Mariners

Elementary School in Newport Beach on Tuesday.

As part of the annual bike rodeo sponsored by State Farm Insurance, the

Childrens Hospital, Two Wheels One Planet and the Mariners PTA, children

biked through a series of rodeo courses to learn safety skills.

“We have quite a few kids that ride their bikes to school. It helps to

alleviate a lot of the traffic,” said event co-chair and dad Tom Fish.

“We figure if kids are well trained and aware of the hazards, they’ll be

safer.”

Fish was one of 20 dads who were out on the blacktop helping out with the

rodeo.

Besides conquering an obstacle course, children also had the opportunity

to get a license for their bikes from the police department.
