MILLENNIUM MOMENT

World War II gave John Macnab an education in dealing with surplus

supplies: he was the commanding officer of a Royal Air Force base in the

Bahamas and was in charge of selling excess war materials.

Later, Macnab moved to Newport Beach and went to work as a real estate

agent, proving no less adept at selling homes than he had been at selling

leftover military equipment. He was the most prolific salesman for the

Macco developing company at a time when Macco was heavily developing

Irvine Terrace, Dover Shores, Cameo Shores and other communities.

Macnab was heavily involved in civic events as well. He was deemed the

Chamber of Commerce’s Man of the Year in 1971 for his work with the Hoag

Memorial Hospital Board of Directors and the City of Hope Diamond

Horseshoe Club. He also acted as president of the Hoag Foundation and

helped found the Hoag Cancer Center.

* MILLENNIUM MOMENT celebrates the people who have made a major

contribution to the Newport-Mesa community during this century.
