Last week’s big defensive plays

Newport Harbor - Outside linebacker Mike Tunney rocked the lead blocker

on an off-tackle play, knocking him backward into the tailback, who fell

to the ground for no gain ... Cornerback Andre Stewart made two tackles,

outside ‘backer Chris Manderino one and nose guard Andy Kalanz recovered

a fumble on fourth down to complete a stirring goal-line stand late in

the first quarter ... Cornerback Justin Jacobs, safeties Kelsey Peterson

and Dayne Pfaff, as well as Manderino, each knocked down passes in

coverage ... End Garrett Troncale had a quarterback sack and another stop

behind the line for 10 yards in combined losses ... Middle ‘backer Alan

Saenz stuffed a run play for no gain ... Manderino and Jacobs combined to

stop a lateral pass for a 7-yard loss ... Safety Billy Clayton saved a TD

by running down receiver on 40-yard screen pass ... End Brad Craig had

sack for an 11-yard loss and another solo tackle for a 2-yard loss ...

Pfaff recovered a kickoff which ricocheted off a Villa Park player after

Harbor’s final touchdown ... Apparent offensive interference ruined a

sure interception for Jacobs.
