Sailors hold off Artists, 37-30

LAGUNA BEACH - Newport Harbor High’s girls basketball team will be

looking to improve on its 1-1 record today at the University Tournament,

when it duels Vista at 10 a.m. following Thursday’s nonleague victory at

Laguna Beach.

The Sailors took a 25-9 halftime lead in that one and held on for a 37-30

nonleague victory.

Sophomore Evita Castilla had 13 points and freshman Athena Vasquez 10 for

the Sailors (1-1), who prevailed despite losing the turnover battle,

34-32.
