Costa Mesa captures fifth place.
LAKEWOOD - Costa Mesa High’s girls basketball team defeated Long
Beach Jordan, 50-35, to take fifth place Saturday in the
Mayfair-Bellflower Tournament at Mayfair High School.
Jenny Earnest and Nancy Hatsushi did most of the damage for the Mustangs
(3-1). Earnest led Costa Mesa with 17 points, and she grabbed eight
rebounds and three steals. Hatsushi poured in 13, including two
three-pointers, along with five assists and steals. After sticking around
for most of the game, the Panthers were overwhelmed by Costa Mesa in the
fourth quarter.
“We played very well,” Costa Mesa Coach Jim Weeks said. “We played great
defense. It was a good tournament for us.”
