Magic weaves way past Hawks

The Magic played their first game of the 1999-2000 National Junior

Basketball season Wednesday, looking much the way they did a year ago in

cruising past the Hawks, 55-32, in a Fountain Valley NJB boys Division I

contest at Fountain Valley High.

The Magic, who won the division title during the 1998-1999 season, rolled

from the opening tip. A feisty defensive effort in the second quarter

limited the Hawks to just two points as the Magic ran up a 23-8 halftime

advantage.

The lead grew to 45-19 before the Mercy Rule stopped the game with the

Magic on top, 55-32.

Ricky Hagen and Nguyen Dau each scored 16 points to lead the Magic,

getting five and four rebounds, respectively.

Nate Hagland (who led the team in rebounds with eight), Ryan Pham, and

Matt Almanza all scored six points for the Magic.
