A story that ran in last week’s Independent regarding the Holly Seacliff

development miscalculated the price of homes considered affordable

according to standards set by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban

Development.

The article reported that the price for 15% of the homes in the area must

be based on an Orange County median family income. The median income for

a family of four in the county is 68,300. For a three-bedroom home,

federal law requires that affordable housing prices range from $133,800

to $273,500. However, the Independent was accurate in reporting that the

PLC Land Co., which oversees construction of the 400-acre area, only

offered housing prices in the upper range of affordability.
