ART CONTEST WINNERS

The Huntington Union Council PTA is proud to announce that all winners of

this year’s “Reflections” art contest will be displayed until Dec. 28 at

the Huntington Beach Central Library in the Windows Art Gallery. Many of

the 24 elementary and high schools from Huntington Beach and Fountain

Valley have participated in this year’s competition, which had “Anything

is possible ...” as its theme. Only the visual art and photography

entries will be on display. The other areas of competition, such as

literature and music, could not be displayed. First place winners will go

on to the Fourth District PTA to compete countywide. Winners at this

competition will then go to the state and national level competitions.

HINSCHE BEGINS LAW SCHOOL

Scott Hinsche, son of Huntington Beach residents Jack and Kathy Hinsche,

has begun his studies at Southwestern University of Law. He is enrolled

in the law school’s day program, a three-year course of study leading to

the juris doctor degree.

BACON NAMED TO BAND

Kimiko Bacon of Fountain Valley was selected to perform in the Valparaiso

University concert band. The concert band is the premier band at the

university.

Bacon, a Fountain Valley High School graduate, is a sophomore majoring in

music at the Indiana school.

COLLEGE DISTRICT BUDGET SET

The Coast Community College District board of trustees approved a general

fund budget of $161,229,221 for the district for the 1999-2000 fiscal year.

The budget allocates $23.6 million to Coastline Community College, $38.9

million to Golden West College, $58.6 million to Orange Coast College and

$1.5 million to KOCE-TV. The district will receive about 3.4% of the

total budget from federal funds, 45.2% from state revenues and 46.7% from

local money.

FOUNDATION GRANTS

Several significant grant proposals were approved recently by the

Huntington Beach High School Foundation. The following proposals were

funded through a combination of support from parents and business through

membership and donations to the foundation:

Paul Fuller, laser printer and supplies for the mathematics and science

computer lab; Sharon Rittenhouse, hand tools and kiln shelving for

ceramics class; David Sprang, tools and equipment for the small engines

class in the auto technology program; Bill Morehouse, a DVD player and

discs for enhanced photo technology; Gregg Gilboe, classroom materials

for advanced placement music theory curriculum; varsity softball program,

co-funding to construct an additional batting cage; Laura Luetzow,

computer; soccer training and strengthening equipment for the girls’

teams; and freshman baseball field equipment materials.
