Huntington Beach resident Carlo Salucci was killed Sunday morning when

the 1995 Honda Prelude he was riding in slammed into a light pole, fire

hydrant and tree, police said.

Salucci, 36, was riding with driver Gina Simon, 34, of Orange. Their car

was traveling west on Alton Parkway in Irvine when she lost control of

the car, Irvine police Sgt. Dick Bowman said.

The force of the crash split the car into two pieces, leaving Salucci in

the rear end of the car while the front end ended up about 40 feet away.

Tire marks from the car marked its wild trajectory, which stretched

across the road before crossing onto the sidewalk.

Salucci was pronounced dead at the scene.

Simon was treated at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission

Viejo with a broken pelvis and a bladder injury.

She was later arrested by Irvine police on suspicion of driving under

the influence of alcohol.

Man charged in fatal accident

Rami Salim Naber, of Huntington Beach, was arrested by Newport Beach

police on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter on Sunday morning.

Naber, 30, was driving west on Pacific Coast Highway in Newport Beach

when his 1997 BMW M3 crossed over the center divider and hit a taxicab

traveling in the opposite direction, police said.

The cab driver, Kenneth King, 60, of Anaheim, and the BMW’s lone

passenger, Satish Kumar Patel, 32, also of Anaheim, were both killed in

the accident.

Naber was ejected before the car rolled to a stop on its roof west of

Promontory Drive.

He was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he was reported to be

in stable condition.

Naber later was arrested by Newport Beach police for vehicular

manslaughter and suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Bail was set at $100,000.

Fountain Valley man sentenced in fatal ambush

Ronald Davey, a Fountain Valley resident who led Glendale police into a

fatal ambush, was sentenced Monday to three years probation after

pleading no contest to involuntary manslaughter.

Davey, 52, lied to two police officers in May 1997 about whether he had

seen a suspect in an attempted murder.

In a later interview with LAPD investigators, Davey admitted he had

spoken with suspect Israel Gonzalez at Elegant Angel Video just 10

minutes before the officers arrived, according to testimony. The officers

wanted to speak to Gonzalez about an alleged assault on his girlfriend,

authorities said.

Minutes later, Gonzalez gunned down Officer Charles Lazzaretto

when Lazzaretto and his partner began searching the Chatsworth warehouse

where he was hiding. Gonzalez fatally shot himself in the head during the

ensuing gun battle with police, authorities said.

Lazzaretto died of his wounds the next day.

Judge Ronald S. Coen also sentenced Davey to 100 hours of community

service and a $200 fine. The plea bargain was offered to spare the

Lazzaretto’s family and friends of another trial and because of Davey’s

heart condition.
