AYSO Region 97: Ameba takes under-14 boys title

NEWPORT BEACH - The Ameba boys AYSO under-14 soccer team defeated

the Slime in double overtime, 3-2, to claim the Region 97 championship

Saturday.

Sergio Luna scored on a power shot from 18 yards out in the second

overtime for the Ameba’s win.

Mike Bury opened the scoring for the Ameba off a pass from Brendan

Zimmer.

Ian Jennings tied the game for the Slime, before Mike Richardson

scored for the Ameba off a rebound.

The Slime’s Zachary Sagay tied the game late in regulation, sending

the game in to overtime.

Both teams advance to AYSO area championship play during January,

against teams from Tustin, Irvine, Costa Mesa and Corona del Mar.

Area winners go on to the AYSO Sectional State Championships in March.
