AYSO Region 97: Navy Seals sweep past Tsunami

NEWPORT BEACH - The Navy Seals needed to climb out of the loser’s

bracket in order to pull off the AYSO Region 97 Division 3 girls title

and climb out, they did.

After defeating the Tsunami, 2-1 in double-overtime in game one, the

Navy Seals scored three early goals and held on for a 3-2 win in the

finals.

In the finals, goals were scored by Megan Dias, Katlyn Baker and

Samantha Klippert, while the Tsunami answered with goals from Cassidy

Hawthorne and Jennifer Porterfield.

Navy Seals’ assists came from Megan Chastain and Klippert, while on

defense, strong play was turned in by Jessie Womble and Taylor Grimes.

The top defender for the Tsunami was Adrian Jhunjhnuwala.

In game one, Dias scored the opening goal for the Seals, while

Porterfield tied the game in the second half.

Finally, in the second overtime, Jillian Whitfield scored on a direct

kick for the Seals’ win.

Both teams will go on to play in regional action, set for January.
