MILLENNIUM MOMENT
Walter M. Longmoor’s start in the canning business came in 1918, when he
took a job as a clerk at the Curtis Corp., a plant in Long Beach.
By 1925, Longmoor was manager of the firm and eight years later, bought
the company altogether. After purchasing it, he renamed the company
Western Canners Corp. and transferred its operations to Newport Beach in
1936.
Longmoor ran Western Canners until 1968. During that time, he served on
the Newport Beach Planning Commission and the Newport Harbor Chamber of
Commerce. He was honored as an outstanding citizen by Orange Coast
College in 1967.
* MILLENNIUM MOMENT celebrates the people who have made a major
