Wrestling: Snyder wins 189-class for Sailors

IRVINE - Newport Harbor senior wrestler Mike Snyder won the

189-pound weight class for the Sailors during Saturday’s Andrew Pena

Classic at Irvine High.

On his way to the title, Snyder had two pins and then defeated Chris

Clark of Irvine in the finals.

Junior Bruce Lim placed third at 119s for the Sailors.

Next up for the Sailors is a tough meet at Estancia High Thursday at 7

p.m., with the featured match being Snyder against the Eagles’ Nate

Thaler.

Both are undefeated and Coach Dominic Bulone thinks it should be a

struggle for both wrestlers.

“It should be a great match to watch,” Bulone said. “Mike’s been real

solid for us and if he stays aggressive he’ll be tough to beat.”

Snyder won the Sea View League title in his weight class last year and

finished third in CIF.
