High school officials to consider facility repairs
Andrew Wainer
Huntington Beach Union High School District officials will hold a special
study session today to discuss how to handle a multitude of repairs on
campuses across the district.
Voters defeated the district’s $123-million bond -- known as Measure A --
last month. With money from the state, the district would have been
granted $160 million in school repair funds if the measure had passed.
The measure, which would have meant a slight tax increase, garnered about
62% of the vote. Repair bonds need a two-thirds majority to pass.
Ed Baker, the district’s director of facilities, said staff members will
brief the board on the effect the bond results will have on the district
and recommend alternative methods to bolster the sagging infrastructure.
Problems on campuses include leaking roofs, outdated plumbing, poor
heating and air conditioning, cracked walls and pavement, among others.
The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the District Education Center
board room, 10251 Yorktown Ave., Huntington Beach.
