ISSUE: BOARD ORGANIZATION

Vote: 5-0

Summary: The board of trustees chose Michael Simons as the new president.

This is Simon’s second term as board president.

The outgoing president, Bonnie Bruce, was awarded with a crystal gavel

for her strong and sensitive leadership.

ISSUE: YOUTH SPORTS

Vote: 5-0

Summary: The board authorized the district to enter a contract with

Pacific Planning for an environmental assessment of a proposed field

lighting project at Marina High School.

The cost is not to exceed $2,550. The city of Huntington Beach will

reimburse the district.

The district and the city will enter into a joint-use agreement for the

scheduling and maintenance of the field, which is planned to be used for

youth sports.

ISSUE: PUBLIC RELATIONS

Vote: 4-1, with trustee Matthew Harper dissenting

Summary: The board approved an amendment to a contract with Eileen

Padberg Consulting for public information services.

The term of the agreement is extended to June 30 for an additional amount

not to exceed $50,000, plus $5,000 expenses.

Assistant Supt. Patricia Koch indicated the contract falls under the

district’s strategic plan to “increase external communications, building

community support.”

Padberg is responsible for publishing the district’s newspaper, Currents.

She also works on principals’ newsletters.
