Oilers notch second win

Jonathan Schuesler scored 18 points and the Oilers picked up their

second win of the young season by defeating the Trailblazers, 53-43, in a

boys Division I West Huntington Beach National Junior Basketball game at

Westminster High.

Lucas Puttock added 13 points, and both Jeff Holliday and Tim Hoffman

came up with several key steals and blocked shots to lead the Oiler

defense.

Tony Moses poured in 17 points and Joey Hynes finished with 10 to lead

the Trailblazers.

ALL-NET DIVISION

WHB 55, EHB 45

Greg Bartolme knocked down 17 points and Trey Valbuena also hit double

figures with 13 points to lead West Huntington Beach (1-1) past their

South Huntington Beach (1-1) rival at Ocean View High.

Magic 52, Hornets 41

The Magic (2-0) jumped out to a 20-2 lead then held off a late surge by

the Hornets. Ricky Hagen and Nguyen Dau each scored 16 points for the

second straight game, Nate Hagland netted 15 points to go along with 14

rebounds, and Ryan Pham collected 10 caroms for the Magic. Jason Urbaniec

scored 16 points, Mike Castleberry scored eight points, Brad Young had

eight rebounds to go along with six points, Keith Christensen scored four

points to go along with nine rebounds, and Jesse Anaya had seven rebounds

and two points for the Hornets.

Magic 55, Hawks 32

Ricky Hagen and Nguyen Dau started the season by scoring 16 points apiece as the Magic jumped out to a 23-8 lead at the half.

Grizzlies 63, Heat 53

The Grizzlies pulled away from a two-point lead in the final two minutes

to secure the victory. Nico Caputo scored a career-best 30 points and

collected 12 rebounds, Michael Entin scored 12 points with seven

rebounds, and Kevin Ferraro added eight points and five rebounds for the

Grizzlies. Paul Youusef paced the Heat with 23 points and Viet Nguyen

chipped in 19 more.

Red Storm 49, Spurs 45

In a game that changed leads throughout, Sean Carroll’s all-around

performance netted 11 points, six assists, six steals, and nine rebounds,

Max Rudzwick scored 12 points with nine rebounds, Chris Jurenga scored

eight points with six steals, and Dan Morris scored 10 points with nine

rebounds to lead the Spurs.
