Ross CIF Division I MVP

Newport Harbor High senior April Ross, who led the Sailors to

repeat CIF Southern Section Division I-AA and CIF State Division I girls

volleyball championships, has been named the section’s Division I Co-Most

Valuable Player for a second straight season.

The 6-foot-1 USC-bound standout, who played primarily outside hitter for

Coach Dan Glenn, was one of seven Back Bay standouts chosen All-CIF by

the section’s girls volleyball coaches’ association.

Corona del Mar senior outside hitter Dimitra Havriluk was named

first-team All-CIF Division III for the second straight season. She was

joined on the first team by by teammate Jamie Brownell, also a senior

outside hitter. The duo led Coach Steve Conti’s team to the section

semifinals, as well as the state quarterfinals, in Division III.

Newport Harbor senior Krista Dill, a 6-2 middle blocker bound for Duke,

was also a first-team selection in Division I. She was MVP of the state

tournament.

Harbor senior outside hitter Brenda Waterman was a second-team honoree in

Division I for the second straight campaign, while seniors Meghan

Gallagher and Marissa Becker represented CdM on the Division III second

team.

Gallagher was a first-team pick as a junior.

Ross, also a two-time Sea View League MVP, shared top individual honors

with San Marcos senior middle blocker Jamie Ortega.

Bishop Montgomery seniors Katie Olsovsky and Carine Pele shared MVP

honors in Division III.
