Surfing: Newport Harbor rips Long Beach Wilson

NEWPORT BEACH - After falling to a tough San Clemente team on

Tuesday, Newport Harbor’s surf team knocked off Long Beach Wilson, 90-67,

Thursday at 58th Street, taking first place in all four divisions.

Junior Ted Cook won his heat in the short board competition with

several lip lashes, while senior Pat Towersey nailed his first heat with

a combination of rights and lefts.

Senior Joe Alani nailed top spot in the division with a prolonged

off-the-lip floater.

In the body board competition, senior Andy Gold outperformed the pack

with spinners and rollos for first place.

Alex Knost took top spot in the long board competition with Alani and

Towersey filling in for their teammates who had the flu.
