Boys soccer: Estancia rolls, 15-0
COSTA MESA - The Estancia High scoring machine -- otherwise known
as the boys soccer team -- continued its offensive onslaught Friday with
a 15-0 nonleague victory over visiting La Quinta Friday.
The Eagles (5-1-1 and ranked No. 10 in Orange County) have now outscored
opponents, 44-4.
Senior Cesar Terrones led the way against the Aztecs, posting a
career-high six goals. Esaul Mendoza, who came into the game with 16
goals, netted two more, despite playing limited minutes in the field.
“I did everything I could to keep the score down,” Estancia Coach Steve
Crenshaw said. “I didn’t start Mendoza and after he scored two goals in
about three minutes, I moved him to goalkeeper.”
Freddy Murillo and Juan Zarate also scored twice, while starting goalie
Hilario Ariaga, Jorge Lopez and Fernando Medina scored one apiece.
La Quinta did not have a shot on goal, but keeper Brian Benjumea
impressed Crenshaw by making 24 saves.
“(Benjumea) did an excellent job,” Crenshaw said.
The Eagles, who led, 7-0, at halftime, will not play again until January.
