Boys basketball: Eagles take third
IRVINE - Jon Cantrell continued his hot shooting, scoring 24
points, including six three-pointers to lead Estancia High to a 61-48
boys basketball win over Irvine in the third place game of the Irvine
World News Classic.
Jason Simco scored 21 points for the Eagles (6-3), while Travis Chandler
added 10.
The Eagles held Irvine to only six points in the first quarter and opened
up a 15-point lead in the first half.
“Our defense was strong early,” Coach Rich Boyce said. “We really
executed well on offense and got, pretty much, whatever shot we wanted in
the ball game.”
Estancia will host Huntington Beach Tuesday at 7 p.m. in a nonleague
matchup.
“I’m very pleased with the outcome of the tournament,” Boyce said.
“Winning three games in this tournament is a good accomplishment.
Hopefully, we can keep it going.”
