Women’s basketball: Pirates hammer Southwestern

COSTA MESA - Orange Coast College women’s basketball team continues

to show no mercy in the Coast Christmas Classic, pounding Southwestern

College, 84-51.

Karyn Fierst led the well-balanced Pirate offense with 17 points, Erin

Tomlinson added 16 and Shauna Steward chipped in with 14.

On the boards, Melissa Lewis dominated the Apaches with 17 rebounds,

while Middlebrooke and Kristen Urban each grabbed eight rebounds.

OCC improves to 13-1 after winning its 11 straight game.

The Pirates will face Cerritos in the championship game today at 4

p.m. The Bucs have beaten Cerritos once this season, 74-67, on Nov. 19.
