ART ASSOCIATION DONATION

The Huntington Harbor Art Assn. has donated $500 each to the Golden West

Foundation, Fine Arts Department, and the Huntington Beach Library’s Main

Street branch. The donations -- made in the memory of association members

Linda Moss and Norman Stanger, who died this year -- will be used to

purchase fine art books.

THE JOY OF GIVING

The Orange County Water District, headquartered in Fountain Valley, is

celebrating its 10th year helping to bring Christmas cheer to needy

families through its Angel Tags program, part of Operation Santa Claus.

Employees adopt a person whose name appears on an angel tag and commit to

buying a toy or gift. As many as 100 children receive gifts each year.

This year, the district added seniors names to the tags.

GRAND JURY APPLICATION

Recruiting for the Orange County Grand Jury will continue through Jan.

31. Candidates must be at least 18 years old and, according to state law,

must be of “normal intelligence, sound judgment and fair character.”

Those selected will serve a one-year term beginning July 1 and ending

June 30, 2001.

DONATION THANKS

The Fountain Valley City Council presented Hyundai Motor America with a

certificate of recognition for donating $6,200 to Fountain Valley High

School to replace band equipment that was stolen from the campus.

‘CENTERED ON THE CENTER’

The Huntington Beach Art Center is looking for artists to participate in

its annual open call, nonjuried exhibition called “Centered on the

Center,” now in its fifth year. Artists -- who must be at least 18 --

should submit two pieces of art to the exhibition. The works must be

original and no more than 2 years old. A $5 fee will be charged for each

piece accepted to the exhibit. Drop-off dates for submissions are Jan. 14

and Jan. 15, between noon and 6 p.m. For more information, call 374-1650.

SAVE DOG BEACH

The Dog Beach preservation society is recruiting volunteers to help clean

the beach and bluff area Jan. 9. Volunteers will meet at the bluff above

Dog Beach, in the parking lot closest to Seapoint Street. For more

MILLENNIUM BASH

Baci Restaurant will hold a millennium party dinner and dance, starting

at 8:45 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. The cost for the dinner is $100, and the

price includes a champagne toast at midnight and party favors. The

restaurant is at 18748 Beach Blvd., between Garfield and Ellis avenues.

HAWAIIAN NEW YEAR

Duke’s Huntington Beach will offer two dinner seatings on New Year’s Eve

-- the first from 5 to 7:30 p.m., priced at $65 per person, and the

second from 7:30 to closing, priced at $95 a person. Both seatings will

feature a four-course meal, etched wine glasses and authentic Hawaiian

cuisine. The second seating will include a champagne toast at midnight.

* Banana Street: Someone broke into a home in the 16000 block and took

$2,700 worth of items at 3:35 p.m. Tuesday.

* Brookhurst Street: A BMW was stolen from a parking lot at a business in

the 16000 block at 2:57 p.m. Sunday.

* Edinger Avenue and Harbor Boulevard: A wall was found spray painted at

12:16 p.m. Tuesday.

* El Centro: Someone stole items from the bed of a truck parked in the

10700 block at 11:21 a.m. Friday.

* Harbor Boulevard: A woman said someone scratched her car while it was

being cleaned at a car wash in the 16600 block at 3:37 p.m. Monday.

* Harbor Boulevard: Someone carved and scratched in obscenities in the

office lobby of a business in the 16400 block at 8:16 a.m. Tuesday.

* Magnolia Street: Three people stole miscellaneous merchandise amounting

to $1,174.22 from a Sav-On store in the 17000 block at 3:10 p.m. Friday.

* San Bruno Street: A man undressed and pressed his genitals against a

patio sliding window and starting jumping up and down in the 17000 block

at 11:23 p.m. Saturday.

* San Paco Avenue: Someone entered a locked truck parked in the 10800

block and stole the stereo at 1:51 a.m. Thursday.

* San Paco Avenue: Someone entered a locked vehicle parked in the 10800

block and tried to remove the stereo but instead left with a laptop

computer at 2:23 a.m. Thursday.

* Slater Avenue: Someone entered at 7-Eleven in the 10500 block and began

arguing with the clerk over the price of an item. The suspect got upset

and ran behind the counter. The suspect then pushed the clerk and punched

him in the chest at 10:46 p.m. Sunday.* Sycamore Street: Items values at

$4,800 were reported stolen from a home in the 16200 block at 4:37 p.m.
