FOUNTAIN VALLEY -- A 5-month-old baby became the third victim of a

fatal accident that killed two earlier this week, authorities said.

The baby’s mother and the driver of the car they were riding in were

killed in the two-car accident, which occurred shortly after 10:30 p.m.

at the intersection of Newhope Street and Warner Avenue. The baby was

thrown from the car during the collision and died of his injuries shortly

after 11 p.m. Tuesday night.

Police believe one of the cars ran a red light an the intersection,

but they haven’t determined which one.

However, police arrested Agustin Gonzalez Galindo, 42, of Costa Mesa,

in connection with the accident. Authorities said Galindo was driving

southbound on Newhope Street in his black and silver Chevy pickup truck,

while Nestor Rameriz Suastegui, 24, of Huntington Beach was driving

eastbound on Warner Avenue in his blue Ford Mustang.

The two vehicles collided at the intersection. Suastegui and the

baby’s mother, Maria Reyna Cano, 28, of Huntington Beach, died from

injuries. Other passengers in Saustegui’s car were Jesus Rameriz, 22,

from Huntington Beach, who suffered facial cuts, and Cei Muyorido, 27,

from Huntington Beach, who is hospitalized in stable condition.

All the passengers were wearing seat belts, and the baby was in a car

seat.

After the collision, Galindo ran from the scene but was found a short

time later hiding in a bush in the area of Mt. Collien and Corinth. He

was arrested for investigation of vehicular manslaughter, felony hit and

run, and drunk driving and was booked into the Orange County Jail with a

bail set at $50,000.

“We’ve had prior problems with Galindo,” said Sgt. Jim Perry of the

Fountain Valley Police Department.

Police do not believe that Suastegui had been drinking, Perry said.

The Fountain Valley Police Department is investigating the accident.

Anyone with information concerning the accident is encouraged to call the
