The Orange County Performing Arts Center’s 2000 International Classic

Dance Season includes performances by some of the best ballet companies

in the world.

Russia’s Bolshoi Ballet, Germany’s Stuttgart Ballet and Julio Bocca’s

Ballet Argentino make their Center debut and the American Ballet Theatre

returns with “Cinderella.”

The season begins Feb. 1-6 with the renowned Stuttgart Ballet with John

Cranko’s full-length “Onegin,” based on the poet’s masterpiece, “Eugene

Onegin.” A program of shorter works will also be performed.

The second offering comes from perhaps the most acclaimed ballet company

in the world. The Bolshoi Ballet, in a weeklong engagement, will perform

the full-length “Romeo and Juliet” and a romantic comedy based on “Don

Quixote,” a new production by the ballet’s Alexei Fadeetchev.

The Bolshoi will be in town June 27-July 2.

In October, Ballet Argentino will perform a program showcasing works by

South America’s premier choreographers. The works include a new tango set

to the music of Piazzola and the pas de deux from “Don Quixote.” Ballet

Argentino performs Oct. 27-29.

The season ends with the return of American Ballet Theatre, led by

artistic director Kevin McKenzie. The company will perform “Cinderella”

Dec. 19-24.

Subscriptions to The Center’s classical dance season are $40 to $239.

The Orange County Performing Arts Center’s Broadway season continues with

“Fame,” “The Sound of Music,” “The Civil War,” “Beauty and the Beast,”

“Cabaret” and “Titanic.”

Now on stage is the musical based on the movie “Fame,” which runs through

Sunday.

Coming March 21-April 2 is the return of “The Sound of Music,” starring

two-time Golden Globe Award-winner Richard Chamberlain as the heroic

Captain Georg von Trapp.

June 6-11 brings “The Civil War,” a new musical by Frank Wildhorn, who

composed “Jekyll & Hyde” and “The Scarlet Pimpernel.”

The Tony Award-winning “Beauty and the Beast” arrives for two weeks, July

11-23, and the newly restaged “Cabaret,” winner of four 1998 Tony Awards including Best Revival, will be staged Aug. 8-13.

“Titanic,” winner of the 1997 Tony Awards for Best Book, Best Score, Best

Sets and Best Musical of the Year, plays Aug. 22-27.
