WOMAN ON THE STREET
We caught up with busy holiday shoppers at Metro Pointe in Costa Mesa two
days before Christmas to find out if they had any fears about Y2K. Here’s
what they had to say:
“I don’t have any fears of our country. In terms of other countries
financially affecting us it could be a problem.”
-- MATT CHILDRESS, 23, Garden Grove
“I think there is too much publicity and the media is blowing it out of
proportion. The only thing I worry about is the terrorism. They talk
about killing black people. I worry because I have five kids, ages six
months to 7 years old.”
-- KEISHA MOORE, 24, Norwalk
“I think it’s just another year. I think people will go crazy. I’m not
really scared, though. But my friend ... is really scared. She and her
husband are stocking up on canned food and water. She thinks the world
could come to an end. But the way I see it, if something happens, that’s
the way God wanted it. If God wants us gone, we are going to be gone.”--
NICOLE SALAZAR, 23, Huntington Beach
“I have absolutely no fears whatsoever about Y2K. My only plan is to
unplug my big screen TV in case the power blows.”
-- BOB RING, 38, Huntington Beach
“I have no fears at all. We are from Europe and nobody says anything at
all. I talk to my parents and they are like, ‘What are you talking
about?’ Nobody over there is worried about it.”
-- SABINE CORDES, 33, Newport Beach
“It’s just going to be another beautiful morning to wake up to. God has
made that day like he has all the rest of them. What’s fear going to do?
Preparation will help. You don’t have to be a fool. I learned a long time
ago that if the next day looks bad, just prepare for it.”
-- CLAYOMA SOLONIUK, 71, Loma Linda
