Boys soccer: Mesa’s fortune runs full circle

OCEANSIDE - Costa Mesa High’s boys soccer team made a strong

showing at the Nautical Cup, leaving the tournament with a win, loss and

tie in the three games.

The Mustangs opened with a tie against Rancho Buena Vista, 2-2. Mike

Gardner and Justin Schoettler scored the goals for Costa Mesa.

In game two, Mesa fell to San Pasqual, 4-1. The Mustangs’ lone goal

was scored by Josh Feldman.

In the final game of the tournament, the Mustangs crushed Escondido’s

Serra High, 7-0, with seven different players scoring.

Goals were scored by Gardiner, Brian Dunn, Zack Powell, Jonathon

Contreras, Cesar Porcayo, Billy Lund and Michael Armstrong.

Midfielder Jose Perez was named to the all-tournament team.
