No one expected Mayor Dave Garofalo to serve lunch at Lucci’s deli last

week as part of his campaign to bring government to the people. But the

way he fumbled with their orders made customers realize something was not

right. After finally getting Chuck Lee’s order straight, Garofalo

introduced himself.

“You’re the mayor?,” Lee said. “No wonder you didn’t know what you’re

doing.”

Bursting into the new year

Most of the world passed into the new year without any major

malfunctions, but Huntington Beach Police Lt. Chuck Thomas swears the Y2K

millennium bug bit him.

The sprinkler in his yard and a hose in the washing machine both burst

over the weekend, he said.

“I’ve got to believe it’s Y2K-related somehow,” he said.

From Oak View to Australia

Fran Andrade, who retired last summer after 30 years as Oak View

Elementary School’s community liaison, is taking advantage of her free

time.

Andrade, who left for a vacation to Australia this week, said she does

not miss the problems and stresses of her former job working with

Huntington Beach’s Oak View community.

But Andrade said she does miss the Oak View kids.

“Working with the students keeps you young,” Andrade said.
