Girls basketball: Vaqs vanquish Tars, 59-18

NEWPORT BEACH -- The visiting Irvine High girls basketball team

outscored Newport Harbor, 20-2, in the second quarter, en route to a

59-18 win in the Sea View League opener Thursday.

Freshman Athena Vasquez had eight points and sophomore Evita Castillo six

for the Sailors (3-13).

Irvine, ranked ninth in Orange County, improved to 14-2.
