THAT’S QUITE A TWO-STEP

A good politician knows how to cut a rug, if you ask Huntington Beach

City Councilwoman Pam Julien.

She refused to answer when a reporter asked her for a response to

residents angered by parking tickets they received as a result of the

city’s new street sweeping program.

But the reporter kept pressing.

“That’s OK,” she said. “That’s what I do for a living, is dance around

the issues.”

A JOLTIN’ GOOD CUP OF JOE

During a Fountain Valley City Council hearing on a proposed drive-through

Starbucks, Councilwoman Laurann Cook asked the company’s architect who

would be liable if there’s a car accident with the coffee shop’s

drive-through customers.

The architect quickly answered, “Don’t look at me. I’m just the

architect.”

PROUD TO BE ONE OF THE BEST

When Sowers Middle School Principal Paul Morrow was asked if he was

surprised that his school had been nominated for the national Blue Ribbon

award, he answered as a proud parent would.

“We knew we were good, but this is a great honor,” he said.

The award is given to the nation’s best schools. Sowers could be the

first school in the district to receive the honor.

A national panel will meet in May to make final recommendations of

schools to receive the recognition.
