Huntington Beach

THE ISSUE: Locals say they’d rather see the money for the proposed beach

artwork spent on other things.

It is a stupid idea that surfers and others would laugh at and children

would climb and fall off of (“City concerned ‘Surfhenge’ will be

wipeout,” Dec. 23). It is unsightly and unnecessary.

I am much more concerned about the proposed $1.5 million they expect to

raise from a 25-year bond issue encumbering parking revenues. That is

even more stupid and foolhardy.

The beach will need repairs twice more in those 25 years. We will be

paying off the debt from revenues that should be used for beach

maintenance yearly and for salaries of lifeguards and other beach-related

maintenance workers.

The City Council should have enough sense to do a fine job with the $4.5

million they have sticking to priorities of bicycle, pedestrian and

handicapped pathways, new showers and restroom facilities, security

lights. Get that work done first.
