ISSUE: WAVE MAKER AWARD
Vote: None
Summary: Shirley Clark, a volunteer at Harbour View School, was given the
district’s Wave Maker Award for her volunteer work at the campus.
Clark has volunteered at the school for the past six years and since 1993
has substituted as a special educational aide, instructional aide and
school office manager, among other positions. She also has been a noon
duty supervisor since 1994.
District staff described Clark as “an outstanding employee and dedicated
volunteer at Harbour View School.”
ISSUE: CONTRACT AGREEMENT
Vote: 4-0, with board member Linda Kovach absent
Summary: The board approved a tentative agreement between the Ocean View
School District and Chapter 375 of the California School Employees Assn.
The preliminary contractual agreement, which covers the 1999-2000 school year, was ratified by association members in November.
The agreement includes a 4.75% raise to the classified employees’ salary
schedule, retroactive to July 1. Classified employees include teachers’
aides, janitors and district secretaries.The cost to the district to
implement the agreement is $384,008, Assistant Supt. Michael Luker said.
ISSUE: INTERN COUNSELORS
Vote: 4-0, with Kovach absent
Summary: The board approved an agreement with the Huntington Beach
Community Clinic for intern counselor services for the 1999-2000 school year.
The district has employed intern counselors in its school since 1990.
Working under the supervision of school psychologists, intern counselors
provide services to entire classes of students, small focus groups and
individual students and their parents.
The total cost for six interns for the school year will be $18,000.
