Fountain Valley All-Net boys on streak
After getting the 1999-2000 season off to a slow start, the
Fountain Valley 6th-grade All-Net boys basketball team, suddenly, is
beginning to roll.
Fountain Valley won its first game of the season last weekend by edging
Pasadena, 41-40, then followed that win with a 50-47 decision over
Whittier.
Fountain Valley pulled out the win over Pasadena when Nathan Morris
scored on a last second shot.
Down by one point with 13 seconds to play, Mike Doran forced a jump ball,
which gave Fountain Valley possession. Brandon Duquette’s 15-foot jump
shot was just off the mark with six seconds left, and defeat seemed
imminent when Pasadena secured the rebound. Morris, however, stepped in
immediately to make a steal, then scored at the buzzer to lift Fountain
Valley to the thrilling victory.
Morris led Fountain Valley with 12 points, while Duquette added 10, and
Adam Czjakowski pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds to go along with five
points.
Fountain Valley toughened up on defense down the stretch of the Whittier
game to win by three points. Mike Doran paced the defense with 14
rebounds and also scored 11 points. Duquette led the way with 12 points,
and Morris finished with 10.
