Rebels dump Fullerton

The North Huntington Beach Rebels, a 6th-grade All-Net girls

basketball team, jumped out to a quick lead and never let up on the

defensive pressure in scoring a 34-15 Blue Conference victory over

Fullerton in National Junior Basketball weekend action.

Lauren Kortizija, Erin Eskey, and Lindsey Schulze combined for 11 steals,

and Kortizija paced the Rebel offense with 15 points and five steals.

Schulze, who hit five of six field goal attempts, scored 11 points and

had six assists, and Ciara Sheppard added eight points.

After Fullerton had closed to within three points in the third quarter,

the Rebels finished the game with a 16-0 run to win going away.

DIVISION 2

Sparks 24, Pistons 8

The Sparks, clinging to a one point first quarter lead, shutout

Newport-Mesa in both the second and third periods to pull away. Erica

Fruhwirth scored 11 points, Lauren Kaprielian added eight points, Rylee

Chapman, Rachel Meyer, and Shannon Peterson sparked the defense, and

Amanda Chickman and Jackie Anderson each added key free throws to lead

South Huntington Beach.

DIVISION I

West HB 34, FV Martians 25

Ashleigh Courtney scored 16 points - including three, three-point

baskets, and also had three rebounds and two assists, Kimberly Rhoten

added nine points, Jaqueline Smith had six rebounds, and Natsumi Furukawa

scored her first basket of the season to lead the Martians (2-4) in

defeat.

DIVISION 2

Purple Pulverizers 24, Tsunamis 16

Jenny Schneider scored six points and led the Tsunamis in steals in the

eight point loss.
