LETTER OF THE WEEK

In my routine travels about town this past weekend, I must say I was

surprised --no, rather disappointed and appalled --that on the weekend

holiday of the birthday of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., I could

easily count on one hand the number of American flags being proudly

displayed outside homes.

This is not about race or politics. King was a courageous man who

helped open the doors of freedom for not only the black people of this

country but for all races and all human beings.

I believe the flag should be displayed proudly on his day as we do on

other important days such as Presidents Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day and

the like. As the song said, “Sadly only the good die young.”
