To our readers,

Starting today, you may notice some changes to the Daily Pilot.

We’ve tuned up some of your favorite features, added a few new ones and

gave some of our pages a nice, clean new look. The changes are not major,

but we hope you will enjoy them just the same.

Here’s a lineup of some of the new and old things to look forward to this

week:

* Today, we highlight our front page with The News Magnified. This is a

deeper, more thorough analysis designed to give our readers better

insight into the issues, controversies and newsmakers that make up our

community. Other new features include our On the Water page, which will

be full of features and stories on beaches, the harbor and the Back Bay.

It will also include Terrance Phillip’s harbor column, our What’s Afloat

calendar of events, a periodic look at those who have taken to the high

seas in search of adventure and a look back at boating’s past with a

feature called Yachts of Yesteryear.

Daily Pilot Editor Tony Dodero will write an Editor’s Notebook featuring

weekly nuggets of news and perspectives for readers. We plan to present

new City Council Previews, which will provide readers with a breakdown of

the issues coming before the councils, what the hot topics are and what

readers should expect. In our follow-up coverage of the meetings, we will

have a new version of our board and council wrap-ups that will be easier

to navigate and hopefully more informative for readers. We’ll focus on

what’s happening, what’s been said and what it means for readers,

including ways to contact members of local government.

* Tuesdays we will showcase our Schools page with a new feature called On

Campus, where we will take a more personal approach to school coverage.

You can also find Wish of the Week there as well as Kids Talk Back, in

which local students give their opinions on issues of importance to them.

Community Forum will move from Page 2 to an inside page and will feature

more reader feedback as well as a Gay Geiser-Sandoval’s Educationally

Speaking column.

* Wednesdays will be the day for Getting Involved, where we will

spotlight those who dedicate their lives to others in For a Good Cause.

Also on this page will be our weekly Almanac, featuring births, deaths,

wedding and engagement announcements and our regular Neighbors column.

* On Thursday look for a new page called In Business, where we will

provide readers with long-playing favorites like Greer Wylder’s Best Buy

column and Working as well as a new Retail Roundup of news and notes from

some of your favorite local businesses.

We hope you enjoy the changes we’ve come up with. But as usual, we’d like

hear your thoughts. Send comments via e-mail to dailypilot@latimes.com or

to our Readers Hotline at (949) 642-6086.

We look forward to hearing from you.
