This well-traveled motor yacht was homeported at Balboa from 1926 to

1929. She was owned by Willits J. Hole of Corona del Mar and Corona. When

in the harbor, she was moored fore and aft off Opal Avenue on Balboa

Island.

Samona was designed by L.E. Geary and built by the Blanchard Shipbuilding

company of Seattle in 1923. She was 115 feet in length overall, with a

beam of 18 feet and draft of six feet. Samona was powered with three

400-horsepower diesel engines driving three propellers. She was

double-planked with 2-inch thick planking laminated to form a 4-inch

thick hull. No caulking was used.
