Backstreet Girls win Area 11-K title

The Backstreet Girls, the reigning AYSO girls Under-10 Region 5

champion, took home the top prize by winning last weekend’s Area 11-K

playoffs.

The Backstreet Girls dominated the opposition at Peterson Elementary

School in Huntington Beach to win the title, thanks to a stellar

defensive effort that shut out four of five opponents the squad faced.

“It has been over 10 years since this region (5) has won the Area

(playoffs),” Region 5 Director Dan Gabaldon said at an awards ceremony

following the tournament.

Added Backstreet Girls Coach Mario Cretikos: “I am proud to be the coach

of such a magnificent team. The girls are in top form as they prepare to

play in the Sectionals tournament.”

The Backstreet Girls, who will compete at the Sectionals on March 4-5 at

UC Irvine, are comprised of Autri Baghkhanian, Taryn Cretikos, Jessica

Eldrige, Jean-Carla Escobar, Jessica Hutton, Natasha Le, Allison Marion,

Stacey Newberg, Kristine Newberg, Veronique Phetchanpheng, Hannah

Poploskie, Brianna Ramsey, Perscilla Reid, and Jennifer Schultz.
