HB Pro/Am Surf Series dates set

The sixth annual Huntington Beach Pro/Am Surf Series, the largest

Pro/Am surfing event in Orange County, has cemented the dates for its

eight competition events during the 2000 season.

The dates for each event are as follows: March 18-19 at the south side of

the Huntington Beach Pier; April 15-16 at 9th St.; May 13-14 at RJ’s;

June 10-11 at the pier; July 22-23 at 9th St.; Aug. 24-25 at the pier;

Sept. 9-10 at 9th St., and Oct. 14-15 at the pier.

Each event runs for two days, and amateur surfers compete on Saturdays in

seven different divisions: Super Groms (11 & under); Boys (12-14);

Juniors (15-17); Mens (18-28); Masters (29 & up); Longboard (open), and

Womens (open).

Due to limited space, competitors are encouraged to preregister to

guarantee their entry into the competition.

“These events, combined with our famous backyard (the Huntington Beach

Pier), are sure to provide our nationwide competitors with a great chance

to showcase their talents,” said Seth Matson, event director of the HB

Pro/Am Surf Series. “The world renowned location and prime surfing

competition guarantees our guests exciting entertainment.”

The HB Pro/Am Surf Series runs four man heats, with the top two

advancing. The level of competition will increase throughout the day as

the top competitors move along into the finals. The series is sanctioned

by the United States Surfing Federation (USSF).

The series also offers another outstanding prize package, with the Pro/Am

surfers competing for a $2,000 first place prize in all double-rated

events, and $1,000 in all single-rated events. Plus, the first place

overall rated surfer for the season (Pro/Am) will win a round trip ticket

to Indonesia, $1,000 cash, and a $500 gift certificate to Ron Jon Surf

Shop.

In addition, the top four amateur surfers in each division take home a

custom-made trophy as well as bag of other prizes, including clothes,

surf gear, and gift certificates. In addition, the first place overall

winners in all amateur divisions win a round trip ticket to Cabo San

Lucas.
