Women’s tennis: Vanguard drops season opener

COSTA MESA - Vanguard University’s women’s tennis team dropped its

opener to visiting USIU, 8-1, on Saturday in a nonconference match.

No. 4 singles player Danielle Speer-Pardee was the only winner for

Vanguard (0-1) with a 6-1, 6-0 win in singles.

Singles - Doyal (VU) lost to Maebara (USIU), 3-6, 2-6; Godfrey (VU) lost

to Tornquist, 1-6, 1-6; Martinez (VU) lost to Hull, 1-6, 0-6;

Speer-Pardee (VU) def. Mejia (USIU), 6-1, 6-0; Boyo (VU) lost to Burks

(USIU), 2-6, 2-6; Ferree (VU) lost to Joubin (USIU), 1-6, 2-6.

Doubles - Doyal-Godfrey (VU) lost to Maebara-Hull (USIU), 2-8;

Martinez-Ferree (VU) lost to Tornquist-Burks (USIU), 1-8;

Speer-Pardee-Boyo (VU) lost to Mejia-Joubin (USIU), 7-9.
