Corona del Mar High’s boys basketball team advances into the finals of

the CIF Southern Section Division IV-A playoffs with a 77-66 win over

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame. Adam Klinke and Brian Fracalosy each score 16

for CdM.

In boys basketball Division IV-A quarterfinal action, CdM gets a 66-49

win over Crespi. Dominic DeGrazier’s 17 points leads the Sea Kings.

Estancia’s boys basketball team gets a 68-62 triumph over Morningside in

the Division III-A quarterfinals. Kevin Byrne and Chris Candlish combine

to score 37 Estancia points. Estancia used a 15-0 run during its win.

Newport Harbor’s girls basketball team advances to the Division III-A

semifinals with a 60-36 blowout of Rim of the World. Mandy Clayton paces

the Sailors with 15 points.

In the first round, the Tars’ girls basketball team squeaks by South

Torrance, 36-32. Mary Anderson gets six points and a team-high nine

rebounds for the Sailors.

CdM’s girls basketball team wins it Division IV-A playoff opener with a

close 66-63 victory over Sherman Oaks Notre Dame. Lindsay Warmington

leads the Sea Kings with 23 points. But CdM falls in the next round to

top-ranked Santa Ynez, 77-32.

Costa Mesa’s girls basketball team gets a 65-47 win over South Hills,

65-47, in the first round of the Division III-A playoffs. Koo Kim leads

the Mustangs with 20 points.

Ten years ago

Estancia’s boys basketball team advances in the Division 3-AA playoffs

with a 74-71 second round win over Pomona. Guty Heredia scores 24 points

for the Eagles. In the first round, Heredia and Mike Haas score 19 points

apiece as the Eagles blow out South Torrance, 98-57.

Newport Harbor’s boys basketball team also wins its Division 3-AA first

round game against Laguna Hills, 70-45. Craig DeBusk scores 13 for the

Sailors. The Tars lose to Culver City, 93-66, in the second round.

CdM’s boys basketball team advances in the Division 3-A playoffs with a

77-58 second round win over St. Paul. John Paulsen’s 10 points is CdM’s

high.

St. Paul beats Costa Mesa’s boys basketball team, 85-79, in the first

round of the Division 3-A playoffs, despite Xavier Hanna’s 26 points for

the Mustangs.

Costa Mesa’s girls basketball team wins its Division 3-A first round game

over Workman, 55-30. Olivia DiCamilli leads the Mustangs with 18 points.

Estancia hammers Troy, 63-29, in the first round of the Division 3-AA

girls basketball playoffs. Melody Earle scores 17 for Estancia.

Newport Harbor’s girls basketball team falls in the first round of the

Division 3-A playoffs to Savanna, 51-43. Stacey Giem scores 25 points in

her last game with the Sailors.

Estancia’s boys soccer team upsets El Segundo, 3-1 in the first round of

the Division I-A playoffs. Sergio Suarez, Hector Espinoza and Jose

Medrano gets the Estancia goals.

Tristan Leyva scores twice for Newport Harbor’s boys soccer team as the

Tars advance to the second round in Division I-A with a 2-0 win over

Bosco Tech.

CdM’s girls soccer team defeats West Torrance, 2-1, in the first round of

the Division 4-A playoffs. Justine DeCesare and Prentice Perkins get

CdM’s goal. Sea King goalie Heather Warmington makes nine saves.
