Corona del Mar High’s boys basketball team wins the CIF Southern Section

Division IV-A championship with a dramatic 47-46 victory over St.

Bernard. Brian Coleman hits two free throws with 35.8 seconds left to

give CdM the one point margin. Brian Fracalosy leads the Sea Kings with

15 points.

Estancia’s boys basketball team gets tripped up in the Division III-A

semifinals by Dos Pueblos, 57-48. Zack Richardson and Chris Candlish

scores 18 and 16 respectively for the Eagles. Richardson is named co-MVP

of the Pacific Coast League.

Costa Mesa’s girls basketball team puts up a fight before falling, 55-50,

to Sherman Oaks Notre Dame in the Division III-A quarterfinals. Erin

Brown leads the Mustangs’ effort with 16 points.

Newport Harbor’s girls basketball team lose in the Division III-A

semifinals, 56-41, to Bishop Montgomery. Melissa Schutz and Jenny

Jennings are the Tars’ high scorers with eight points each.

CdM’s baseball team wins its season opener by hammering Estancia, 13-4,

in five innings. Kevin Stuart’s three-run homer caps off the Sea Kings’

assault. Chris Wills pitches three scoreless innings for the win.

CdM boys tennis team also beats Estancia in its season opener, 20-1. John

Cappello and Tyler Stonebreaker picks up two points each for CdM.

CdM’s boys volleyball team sweeps Costa Mesa, 15-5, 15-4, 15-5. Steve

Reese’s 12 kills leads CdM.

Ten years ago

Estancia’s boys basketball team advances to the Division 3-AA finals with

an 81-78 overtime win over Lompoc. Guty Heredia carries the Eagles with

32 points. In the semifinals, Estancia defeats Western 68-57, behind 22

points from Mike Haas and 18 from Matt Fuerbringer.

CdM’s boys basketball team earns a place in the Division 3-A finals with

a 67-58 pasting of Sherman Oaks Notre Dame. Warren Johnson leads the Sea

Kings with 17 points and 13 rebounds. He also scores 25 in the

quarterfinals as CdM batters Northview, 75-60.

Costa Mesa’s girls basketball team advances to the Division 3-A

semifinals with a 56-42 win over Sherman Oaks Notre Dame. Olivia

DiCamilli gets 24 points and 19 rebounds for the Mustangs. DiCamilli

leads the Mustangs with 16 points and 24 boards in a 47-45 second-round

thriller over Bellflower.

Estancia’s girls basketball team advances to the Division 3-AA

quarterfinals with a close 66-63 win over Pomona. Estancia’s Melody Earle

scores 28 points.

Estancia’s boys soccer team moves on to the Division 1-A quarterfinals

with a 2-1 overtime win over Artesia. Sergio Suarez scores the game

winner in the second OT.

David Pattison scores with 20 seconds left in regulation to give Newport

Harbor’s boys soccer team a 2-1 win over Keppel in a Division I-A second

round game.

Estancia’s Dan Petrone wins the 191-pound title in the Sea View League

wrestling championships with a 3-2 decision over Jose Martinez of

Saddleback.
