Girls water polo: Belden scores five as Newport wins, 8-4

SAN DIEGO - Katherine Belden made sure the long trip was worthwhile

for Newport Harbor High’s girls water polo team. She scored five times as

her Sailors routed host and San Diego Section Division II powerhouse

Coronado, 8-4, in Newport’s last game of the regular-season Saturday.

Newport goalie Heather Deyden made 10 saves for the win.Erin Kelly Bates

scored twice and Kyndra Cox once for the Sailors (20-7). Newport moves on

to the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs, where it is the

defending champion.
