CdM’s softball team gets a 7-2 win over Bethel Christian. Sea Kings’

pitcher Hayden Aley strikes out nine.

Newport Harbor’s boys swim team easily defeats Los Alamitos, 99-76. Rob

Williams wins the 500-meter freestyle and 100-meter breastroke for the

Sailors.

Mike Leonard gets a sweep as Estancia’s boys tennis team gets a 13 2/2-8

1/3 win over El Modena.

Ten years agoEstancia’s boys basketball team wins the CIF Southern

Section Division 3-AA championship with a 51-47 decision over Servite.

Guty Heredia carries the Eagles with a game-high 32 points.

Costa Mesa’s girls basketball team, 12-11 and the No. 3 seed coming in,

upsets Rancho Alamitos, 51-49, in the Division 2-A finals. Thuy Nguyen

and Rachel Ward lead the Mustangs with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

In Division 2-A girls basketball semifinals, the Mustangs beat South

Hill, 61-55. Olivia DiCamilli leads Mesa with 28 points.

CdM’s boys basketball team falls in heartbreaking fashion in the Division

3-A finals when Dos Pueblos’ Chris Gaines hits a jumper with two seconds

left in overtime for a 39-38 win. Warren Johnson scores 15 and John

Paulsen 11 for the Sea Kings.

Estancia’s girls basketball team ends its season in the Division 3-AA

semifinals with a 72-48 loss to Palos Verdes. Patrice Lumpkins scores 17

points for the Eagles.

CdM’s Brady Lamar goes 2-for-4, scores three runs, and drive in two as

the Sea Kings’ baseball team gets a 8-5 comeback win over Laguna Beach.

CdM’s boys track team wins its season-opening dual meet, 85-50, over

Edison. Steve Hochsheild wins the 800 and 1600-meter races, and he

anchors the victorious 1600-meter relay squad. Greg Sheppard wins the 110

hurdles and 300-meter race for the Sea Kings.
