Women’s basketball: Pirates move on

COSTA MESA - Leah Wilde scored 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead

the Orange Coast College women’s basketball team to a 82-69 win over

Bakersfield in the semifinals of the Southern California Regionals

Tuesday night.

The Pirates (27-5), known for their streaky shooting, found their groove

early, hitting 23 of 37 from the field, including six three-pointers.

Wilde scored 18 of her 23 points in the first half. She connected on 5 of

11 three-pointers for the night.

Karyn Fierst chipped in with 20 points, while Sarah Middlebrooke added 15

points and eight rebounds.

With the win, the Pirates advance to the regional finals when they play

at Cerritos Friday at 7 p.m.

After building a 50-31 halftime lead, the Pirates’ shooting turned cold,

hitting only three of their first 22 shots as Bakersfield cut the lead

down to eight.

Nicole Woodruff had 23 points to lead Bakersfield (22-11).
