Track and field: CdM sweeps first meet

CORONA DEL MAR - Corona del Mar High’s boys track and field team

defeated visiting Calvary Chapel of Santa Ana, 120-6, while the Sea

Kings’ girls won, 103 1/2-21 1/2 in the season opener for both squads

Thursday.

For the boys, CdM’s Reed Glyer won four events. He finished on top in the

110-meter high hurdles (18.2), 300 high hurdles (45.8), the triple jump

(36-0) and the long jump (18-7). Josh Yelsey easily won the 800 (2:04.8)

and 1,600 (4:42.6) and also anchored CdM’s victorious 4x400 boys squad.

CdM Coach Bill Sumner was most impressed with Sean Fenton’s performance

in the shotput.

“Fenny’s 51-4 was a good way to start the season,” he said.

For the girls, CdM’s Liz Morse and Diana Hossfeld obliterated their

competition. Morse topped the 200 (26.3) and 400 (57.3), and she also

anchored the 4x100 and 4x400 squad.

Hossfeld easily took the 1,600 and 3,200 races. Kristen Canary won three

events for the Sea Kings, taking the girls 100, triple jump and pole

vault.

“Everything went OK considering the amount of work we did,” Sumner said.

“I’m really impressed for what they did in the first meet, but I expect

more later.”
