BEHIND THE SCENES

-- Noaki Schwartz

* WHO: Dean Gale

* AGE: 46

* JOB TITLE: Credential verification chairman

* HE IS: In charge of the volunteers who check spectators’ tickets at the

entrance to all the hospitality tents at the Toshiba Senior Classic.

* DAILY DUTIES: Coordinates credential verification staff.

“It’s a tough job because people show up and they don’t have their

stickers,” he said, adding that sometimes it’s a tricky balancing act in

denying access to important yet forgetful people without offending them.

“If the host says it’s OK, then we let them in.”

Once Gale has all his people in place, he spends the rest of his time

trouble-shooting, he said.

“Sometimes we get a call that someone needs more ice or this or that,”

Gale said.

* DID YOU KNOW: Sometimes the crowds inside the tents are more interested

in socializing than watching the tournament.

“It’s like they’re at a cocktail party,” Gail said. “The golfers on the

green are trying to golf and we’ve got to get them to quiet down.”
